My Alesis IO14 Firewire Interface works with my desktop pc & my old notebook. But with my new notebook (Intel Core2Duo) it produces a lot of crackles, clicks, distortion etc.

I bought a new firewire card with a Texas Instrument chipset.

Tight Punchy Bass with a Multiband Compressor http://localhost/en/mixing-mastering/mastering/tight-punchy-bass-multiband-compressor.html Introduction

In contrast to an equalizer a multiband compressor is the key to rich bass.

Boss VF-1 Vocal Multi (Vocal Channel Strip) http://localhost/en/guitar-effects/boss-vf-1/vocal-multi-channel-strip.html A complete vocal channel strip with compressor & limiter, de-esser, equalizer, enhancer, delay, reverb, modulation fx, separate chorus and noise suppressor is part of Boss VF-1 algorithms.

I mean if you already own an unused Boss VF-1 then you can lend it to your singer.

Boss GT-8 & Boss GT-10 Equalizer Settings for a warm Sound http://localhost/en/guitar-effects/boss-gt/warm-sound.html Introduction

To be kind to Boss I would say that most of the preamp models are bit too bright sounding. I mean it's not what I call a warm sound.
My old Line6 Pod Pro had a lack of highs but it was more a dull sound than a warm sound.

Boss VF-1 Tape Echo201 (Roland RE-201 Space Echo) http://localhost/en/guitar-effects/boss-vf-1/roland-re-201.html Design of the Roland RE-201

The Roland RE-201 Space Echo contains a tape drive - therefore Tape Echo - with three tape heads and a spring reverb. A mode switch activates the three tape heads and / or the spring reverb in fixed combinations. Mode 1 - 4 only echo, mode 5 - 11 echo + reverb and mode 12 only reverb.

Boss VF-1 Space Chorus (Roland SDD-320 Dimension D) http://localhost/en/guitar-effects/boss-vf-1/roland-sdd-320-dimension-d.html Construction of the Roland SDD-320 Dimension D

The Roland SDD-320 Dimension D was a 19" 2HE rack effect. It had 5 buttons. One red power switch and four buttons (numbered 1 to 4) which controlled the chorus sound. The four chorus buttons worked like radio buttons.

Boss GT Overdrive and Distortion Stompboxes http://localhost/en/guitar-effects/boss-gt/overdrive-distortion-stompboxes.html A lot of times I read about the bad overdrive and distortion modeling of the Boss GT series. But what's wrong with the overdrive / distortion block?

Everyone of us using real amps and distortion stompboxes knows that you cannot combine every distortion / overdrive stompbox with every amp. E.g.

Dynamic Hi Gain Sound with the Boss GT-10 http://localhost/en/guitar-effects/boss-gt/dynamic-high-gain-sound.html Dynamic

In general playing rhythm guitar with high gain sounds is critical because distortion works like a compressor. You loose the dynamic of your playing. Therefore every good sound engineer will ask you to use less gain for your rhythm parts.

Boss GT-10: The correct input signal level for a transparent sound without digital distortions http://localhost/en/guitar-effects/boss-gt/signal-level.html Statements found in the internet about the signal level

You almost get one answer when dealing with the question about the signal level: "Use the highest possible signal level because otherwise the Boss GT-8 and GT-10 analog / digital conversion will produce undesirable low quality results (digital aliasing)

ReAmping your guitar with the external effects loop of the Boss GT-8 / GT-10 http://localhost/en/guitar-effects/boss-gt/reamping.html Reamping

Reamping means to record the clean guitar signal without any effects or amps. Then the recorded clean guitar can be played through any possible effects and amps combination until you get the desired sound.

The problem is that it is almost impossible to play a clean tapping guitar solo.

Boss GT-10 / GT-8: Using the preamp of your guitar amp with the 4 cable method http://localhost/en/guitar-effects/boss-gt/4-cable-method.html Introduction

With the 4 cable method (4cm) you can connect your Boss GT-8 /GT-10 to your guitar amp, that you can use the preamp of your guitar amp. This is especially usefull when using a good sounding tube preamp, because then you can still use it.

Of course you can use the Boss GT-8 or GT-10 like every other multi-effect device from the '90th. Connect it to a clean guitar amp and only use the available overdrive and distortion models, but not the preamp models.

Boss GT-10 & GT-8 with level dependent automatic activation of the compressor http://localhost/en/guitar-effects/boss-gt/automatic-compressor.html Who don't know the problem? You play the first song with fingerpicking, the next song with a plectrum and the last one is much louder. Therefore my clean patch had a compressor assigned to the CTRL pedal. But, there's a much better way without the CTRL pedal.
