The Roland SDD-320 Dimension D was a 19" 2HE rack effect. It had 5 buttons. One red power switch and four buttons (numbered 1 to 4) which controlled the chorus sound. The four chorus buttons worked like radio buttons. But same smart muscians discovered that it was possible to push more than one button at once. Therefore it was possible to get combinations like button 1 & 4, or 3 & 4.
Since the Roland SDD-320 Dimension D had only buttons, Boss gave the VF-1 Space Chorus only one button which can switch every reasonable combination ( 1, 2, 3, 4, 1+4, 2+4 & 3+4) of the above mentioned four Roland SDD-320 Dimension D buttons. Furthermore there is an FX Knob and an INPUT MONO / ST. switch. In addition a DIRECT SWITCH OFF/ON can switch off the direct signal (dry signal) in case you use the Space Chorus in the Aux Send / Return of your mixer. Almost every Boss VF-1 algorithms has an 4BAND EQ and of course the Space Chorus, too.
I don't how an original Roland SDD-320 Dimension D sounds. But the Boss VF-1 Space Chorus creates a brilliant chorus sound. The chorus isn't intrusive and always stays in the background. It's like spice.
