MG100HDFX Effects Retun
Reply #16 on : Fri August 07, 2009, 19:36:20
Hi Elias,

at the rear of your amp there is an FX Level Switch. Set it to -10dBV which is guitar level. At the right front side there is an FX Loop Mix knob. Turn it right to EFF.

It's not possible. Try to improve your tone with a (custom) preamp, the eq and an overdrive.
If you really want to use a lot of effects then go buying a second effects device which is midi controllable. Then you can control the second effects device with your Boss GT-8. Midi Out of the Boss GT-8 to midi in of the other device.
Look for a cheap Boss VF-1 or Boss SE-70. Really good units!

How can I use more than just the two FX on the GT-8?
I feel like I should be able to have some way of using my two effects that improve my tone and then use like rotary and auto riff or whatever.
It's like both FX-1 and FX-2 are in use but I want to use more than that.
I know delay and chorus and reverb and wah and whatnot are on their on little buttons but other effects aren't.

You should use the resonator behind the preamp. And try the clean tri amp instead of the twin.

#1 FX order
wah, compressor, od, external loop, preamp, eq, fx1, fx2, delay, chorus, reverb.

#2 On the GT-6 you could only use the external loop OR the overdrives.

#3 You should use as much gain as you need for rhythm guitar. The OD is then used as a solo booster.

gt-6 -> gt-10 pre modelling
Reply #10 on : Mon June 29, 2009, 09:05:50
Hey, I'm going to post here coz it looks like this one gets looked at, and has answers and stuff! Woah nice!

Ok, I've been using a gt-6 in front of a marshall jcm900 - mainly with a strat. My base sound was achieved using the 'clean twin' pre-amp model, which sounded nice and warm and a bit awesome really.

I've just upgraded to a gt-10 but I can't replicate the same bass response/warmth with identical patch settings!

I have then side by side (both running in front of the amp), and switch each in and out and its like night and day with the gt-6 sounding way more awesome. I guess what I'm saying is that the patch modelling is quite different - and there are some different settings, the gain on the gt-10 goes to 120 and not 100 on the gt6 for a start.

Just find it a bit annoying really, the resolution of the gt-10 is much more awesome, but ugh.

Thanks I will have a look at my FX chain order...(I think the OD is in the wrong spot) on that note, can you give a suggestion as to what order should be followed in the FX chain? There's a few abbreviations I'm not sure what they are in the chain.

#2 if I remember on the GT-6 the FX chain was a global setting, does the GT-8 have that as well or do I need to change the order in every user patch I made?

#3 My preamp is from a marshall valvestate head, I think if I run full preamp I might get tons of feedback if I add GT8 distortion, what's your suggestion of how much gain to use in addition to the GT distortion/OD?

1) Probably the distortion block is set behind the effects loop? Or you deactivate the loop when activating the distortion?

2) The distortion must always be in front of your amp and therefore in front of the Boss GT effects loop!

Hi I need some help. I use the GT-8 with 4cable method and always used my full gain marshall head preamp and everything is good, no gt8 preamp or distortion used. Now we added a few songs that I need to fatten my sound a bit and would like to use the OD/Dis but when I engage it, my volume control on the head is gone, disengage and my head volume control is back.

How do I fix this?

#2 what's the best way to incorporate the distortion into the FX loop? I'm not sure how to setup the FX chain for this with my current loop

Thnx for the help
